Our goal is to advance science with the power of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), deep learning, and other emerging technologies. We use AI to extract knowledge from data across our entire pipeline, from enabling more efficient molecule property prediction to finding new treatments for diseases with large unmet need. We also use ML in multi-omics analysis to help with target identification, preclinical insight, understanding disease pathways and to bring precision medicine to clinical trials.

The organic solvents that have been used in chemical reactions to develop breakthrough medicines can be expensive, toxic and often flammable. Our scientists have developed a technology that allows chemical reactions to proceed very efficiently using nanomicelles in water rather than in harmful organic solvents. This process creates very little waste and requires less energy than traditional methods.

DNA-encoded libraries (DELs) have emerged as a powerful technology in drug discovery. By harnessing the power of molecular biology, DEL technology allows for rapid synthesis and screening of large chemical libraries of billions of compounds. AbbVie is developing and implementing innovative chemistries and methodologies to build its DEL platform to identify new molecules for novel and difficult-to-drug targets faster. AbbVie’s proprietary DEL platform contains more than 30 billion diverse compounds.

Although the science behind therapeutic antibodies is not new, there are still challenges and opportunities for improvement in antibody discovery. AbbVie researchers have developed a cutting-edge B-cell discovery platform with specialized capabilities and new methods for rare antibody discovery, multi-species antibody discovery, and antibody discovery from patients’ samples to unlock the power of the human immune systems.

A handpicked band of engineers from a wide range of backgrounds, the SPaRCS team ranges from microfluidics experts to rocket engineers to marine engine designers. SPaRCS’ mission is to invent the futuristic systems and technologies that our scientists need to create the drug discovery process of tomorrow. Since its inception, the team has developed more than 600 instruments to help researchers do things once thought impossible. BREATHE robots, for example, are a SPaRCS invention that allows researchers to discover the most effective drug molecules faster and more accurately than previous methods.
