We are a certified migraine friendly workplace

The Swiss Headache Society has certified us as a migraine friendly workplace. Those affected find a supportive working environment with us so that they can achieve their full potential.

After preliminary discussions and some preparation, we were subjected to a thorough and detailed assessment by members of the board of the Swiss Headache Society in November 2025. For over 30 years, the Swiss Headache Society (SKG) has been uniting specialists, primary care physicians and scientists dealing with the subject of headaches and migraines.

Migraines affect around 15 per cent of the working population. Creating a working environment in which migraine patients can develop their full potential and feel comfortable is therefore of great interest to AbbVie – on the one hand, because the well-being of our employees is central for us, and on the other, because it helps to reduce absenteeism at work and also counteracts so-called "presenteeism" (reduced work performance due to illness).

The Label of the Swiss Headache Society recognises companies that take an open approach to the condition and, through this acceptance and targeted measures, relieve and support those affected, thereby also reducing the stigma that migraine sufferers continue to suffer from greatly. This is because migraine is still far too often misjudged as a psychosomatic rather than a neurological illness.

The "Migraine Friendly Workspace" quality label from the Swiss Headache Society is based on three e pillars:

  • empowerment: Knowledge transfer and prevention; for example, online seminars or live lectures by SKG members, as well as support for sports programmes and offers for health and well-being.
  • environment: There is a place for retreat that can be closed off and is therefore protected from noise, odours and light. If necessary, workplace counselling is performed, and understanding and flexibility within teams are promoted.
  • engagement: Through targeted counselling and solution finding, the basis is created so that migraine sufferers can have a fulfilling career. Flexible working hours, the option of working from home and job rotation also help.

It was a great pleasure to award AbbVie as one of the first companies in Switzerland with our Migraine Friendly Workspace Label. It stands for an exemplary approach to migraine."

As migraine is a central focus of my work, it was very important to me to advocate for a migraine friendly working environment and to initiate the required steps."
